Hydronic radiant heat takes a different approach to winter comfort by delivering heat to where it is needed most. Unlike forced air furnaces that heat air, these systems heat surfaces.
A boiler heats water that is pumped through tubing under the floor, or sometimes in the walls and ceiling. The heat from the water warms the surface area, gradually releasing heat throughout the home.
Because heat rises, warmer air rising from the floor naturally mixes with cooler air in the home to disperse the heat. In some cases, we can design a radiant system that both heats and cools your home through the same tubing in the walls and ceiling. Radiant heating is a popular option for our Silicon Valley climate.
Although some Santa Clara County homeowners retrofit their homes, radiant floor heating is most common in new construction. One advantage of radiant heating is that the mechanicals and ducts take up less space, freeing up space that would otherwise be filled.
Quality design of the radiant heating system is essential for a system that provides the greatest comfort and energy efficiency. Our team of veteran technicians are skilled in efficient design for comfort and energy savings for many years to come.
When considering comfort, radiant heating wins hands down compared to a forced air furnace. Many of our satisfied customers say they enjoy the constant temperatures that radiant heat provides in homes throughout the South Bay.
Unlike forced air that blows large quantities of air – underfloor radiant heat provides a gradual, even heat, right where you want it most. We carefully space the tubing to provide exceptional comfort for homeowners across the Silicon Valley.
For people that find indoor air in the Silicon Valley too dry during the heating season, radiant floor heating is well suited to maintain ideal humidity levels for health and comfort. While forced air furnaces (without humidifiers) remove humidity from the air, radiant floor heating does not.
These systems are often more efficient than forced air furnaces because they eliminate the heat loss from ducts. For customers wishing to have zoned heat to save on energy bills while maintaining comfort, these systems are a great option.
Radiant floor heating can be up to 30% more efficient than forced air heat, depending on the efficiency of the home. One reason these systems have earned a reputation for lower utility bills is because underfloor systems supply heat where occupants come in contact with it, in the floor.
For this reason, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) reports that people are comfortable in a room with radiant heating at temperatures 6 to 8 degrees cooler than a room with convection or forced air heat. This offers an opportunity for big energy savings during Santa Clara County winters, while maintaining comfort.
For further reductions in energy bills, radiant floor heating can be integrated with a solar thermal system. Energy from the sun is used to heat the water in the radiant floor system, reducing the need for the boiler to kick on. The boiler is available as needed when there isn’t enough solar energy available to heat the water.
Since 1995, Residential Heating and Air Conditioning has helped make thousands of homes across the Silicon Valley to be more comfortable and energy efficient. Our woman-owned company has a veteran team of NATE-certified technicians that are highly trained and experienced in designing and installing radiant floor heating system in Santa Clara County.
